I’m honestly not sure what I just read. No joke. I loved this book, though, and I do recommend it quite highly. I just had a difficult time getting past some seriously pretentious writing that may or may not have been intended as irony.

Samantha Mackey has enrolled in a graduate writing course at a prestigious East Coast university. There, she meets and becomes enthralled (literally and figuratively) by a group of women (also in the writing course) who call each other Bunny. Samantha and her best friend Ava mock these women and their Stepford-esque ways.

All of that is fine and good. The very white-girls-of-Pinterest vibes given off by the Bunnys is mysterious and creepy. But then things become rapidly and extremely surreal and haunting, not to mention downright gory.

Excellent writing (I think?) and truly brilliant characterization make this book worth the read. Fans of films like #Hereditary or #Midsommar will love it. However, #triggerwarning #animalabuse. Or maybe not abuse so much as the very weird use of animals? Regardless, be aware.
